Iran Warns of Extended Conflict as Trump Considers New Military Strikes

by admin477351

Iran has cautioned that a potential conflict with the United States might extend longer than previous engagements, as U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that Washington still has targets remaining within Iran. This announcement comes amid heightened uncertainty surrounding diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

According to Iranian army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia, any future war could be more prolonged, with the U.S. president unable to dictate its duration or conclusion. This warning follows Trump’s remarks that the United States could quickly target one or two remaining sites in Iran, including Pickaxe Mountain, a suspected underground nuclear facility.

In conjunction with Trump’s comments, he confirmed discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu focused on ongoing negotiations and potential resumption of military actions. Reports indicate Israel is advocating for renewed strikes post-November 3 U.S. midterm elections, while the U.S. considers extending diplomatic efforts.

In response to the potential for military escalation, Iranian military officials issued stern warnings. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi stated that any conflict would have no geographical constraints, implying an expanded Iranian response regionally. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged Washington to prioritize diplomacy while asserting Tehran’s readiness for both defense and negotiation.

Meanwhile, Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei disclosed receiving a letter from U.S. Vice President JD Vance seeking to revive diplomatic talks. Although he noted a positive shift in Washington’s approach, Tehran has not yet formally responded. Iran’s conditions for renewed discussions include the release of frozen assets, lifting of the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports, removal of sanctions, and an end to hostilities in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a significant point of tension, with Iran maintaining shipping restrictions through the crucial waterway for global oil and gas supplies, and the U.S. continuing its naval blockade. The United Arab Emirates has expressed hope for a diplomatic resolution but cautioned that the region should prepare for possible escalation. UAE diplomatic adviser Anwar Gargash emphasized that another round of fighting would not be in the regional countries’ interests.

As military threats coexist with diplomatic overtures, uncertainty persists regarding whether Washington and Tehran can reach a peaceful agreement or if the region will face another phase of military conflict.
